West African & Lake Victoria Cichlids

Lake Victoria is the world’s second-largest freshwater lake, and it’s home to over 500 species of African cichlids, almost all endemic. These cichlids come in various colors and shapes, making them popular among aquarium enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, only a handful can be found in the trade today, as Lake Victoria’s environmental conditions have suffered greatly due to overfishing, pollution, and invasive species.

It’s worth noting that most Lake Victoria cichlids are herbivores, make sure to look into getting them specialized foods that contain vegetable matter and other plant-based ingredients.
